Breaking Up with Work

Breaking up is always hard. Whether it's with your favorite TV show or even your significant other, the pain of separation can be quite hard for some of us.

But what about breaking up with work? Yes, you read that right, especially a good employer.

You probably wouldn't feel any type of way if the employer treated you unfairly, but may still miss your day one's at work but if the situation left was a positive one ....

Imagine You've finally decided to part ways with your job. Maybe it's time for a new adventure, or perhaps you've outgrown your current role like a pair of jeans after Christmas dinner. Regardless of the reason, the thought of leaving behind your colleagues feels like leaving a piece of your world behind.

First up, let's talk about your work BFF. You know the one – the person who's seen you through deadlines, office & personal dramas, and your lunchtime bestie . Saying goodbye to them feels like losing a part of yourself. Who else will understand your inside jokes, create escape plans or share your love for mid-afternoon tea breaks? The struggle is real, folks.

Then there's the office banter and impromptu brainstorming sessions with snacks to keep it exciting. Suddenly, the thought of missing out on office gossip or Friday happy hour feels like somethings missing. Who will you complain to about the broken printer or celebrate small victories with?

Let's not forget about the challenges of adapting to a new environment. Starting a new job is like being the new kid in school all over again – nerve-wracking, awkward, and a bit of concern about not fitting in. Will your new colleagues understand your weird sense of humor? Will you be able to navigate the office politics without seeming clueless?

And what about the fear of missing out (FOMO) on all the office shenanigans? From birthday celebrations to team-building days, there's a mini worry that you'll be left out of the loop. Suddenly, your social feed is flooded with photos of your former colleagues living their best office life without you.

But fear not, my lovelies, for all is not lost. While breaking up with work can feel like the end of an era, it's also the beginning of a new chapter. Embrace the opportunity to spread your wings and soar to new heights. Who knows, you might just find a new work BFF or discover hidden talents you never knew you had.

So, the next time you find yourself facing the daunting task of saying goodbye to your work family, remember this: It's okay to feel sad and a little bit lost. But it's also okay to embrace change, take risks, and venture into the unknown. After all, the best relationships – whether with a job or a person – are the ones that push you out of your comfort zone and into the great wide open.

It may or may not be time to embark on a new adventure. But who knows what wonders await you on the other side? Only time will tell. Until then, keep calm and carry on – your next work BFF may be just around the corner.

Do you still communicate with your former work BFF's?
